3 November 2005
In support of World Usability Day and with the kind support of
Global Hand, UPA HK will conduct a Usability Walkthrough of two
pages on www.globalhand.org. We will also discuss the important
of Home page usability and present findings to help optimize the
Global Hand Home page. The principles applied will help think about
Usability in your own organizations.
What is a Usability Walkthrough?- A usability Walkthrough is a
tool where a group of stakeholders, including designers, users
and developers, are brought together to review a design. With the
help of the Hong Kong Usability community we will be conducting
a walkthrough to help improve elements of the Global Hand website
that is currently in the works. Ultimately, we hope to improve
Global Hand’s ability to assist the poor.

The Usability Professionals’ Association is organizing the
first annual World Usability Day on November 3, 2005. This worldwide
series of events will promote awareness of the benefits of usability
engineering and user-centered design. Activities will be held at
the local level all over the world, and will be occurring on the
same day. This year’s focus is e-government, while also including
commercial applications. The theme is “Making It Easy.” See:

Often likened to a “humanitarian eBay”, Global Hand
matches offers and requests between the corporate and Non Government
Organisation (“NGO”) sectors. Until now, Global Hand
has primarily facilitated offers and requests for goods. Now, those
services are being expanded to include human resources, freight,
and funding as well.
